Sports dome project in Caledon, Ont. moving forward with hopes of opening in late fall

Manufacturing of dome itself could delay project, however

March 11, 2024  By  Mike Jiggens

A new artificial turf field and dome are one step closer to becoming a reality at Caledon, Ont.’s Mayfield Secondary School.

A funding agreement between the Town of Caledon and Peel District School Board (PDSB) is being executed as well as a joint use agreement. The project was originally approved by council two years ago, but wet weather and a late start by the contractor have delayed progress.

The dome will give user groups the opportunity to play sports year-round.

The turf and dome are expected to be completed by late fall. The dome’s structural support is nearing completion while the sports field lighting has already been installed. The artificial turf and rubberized track are expected to be installed this fall. The dome itself hasn’t yet been manufactured, and officials fear it may not be ready until 2025.
