Canada’s cricket capital expected to approve construction of indoor cricket dome

Project will allow growing sport to be played year-round in Brampton

Brampton, Ont., often regarded as the cricket capital of Canada, is expected to green-light a $2-million domed facility that will allow year-round play of the sport.

The demand for cricket fields in the city is growing, and the winterized dome will allow enthusiasts to play 12 months of the year.

An artificial turf playing surface is to measure 146 metres by 81 metres. The dome concept will allow both indoor and outdoor play, depending the season.

The dome is proposed for Brampton’s Earnscliffe Park. Should council give its approval for the dome project, a procurement process for the design and construction of the dome will get underway.
