Kitchener gives its approval for construction of indoor sports field facility

$144-million project to include FIFA-sized indoor field

April 9, 2024  By Turf & Rec

City council has approved plans to proceed with the construction of a new sports complex in Kitchener.

The $144-million facility, which will be built at RBJ Schlegel Park, will be highlighted by a full FIFA-sized indoor soccer field that can be divided into four individual fields.

The city claims the complex’s construction will have no impact on municipal taxes. Other features of the facility will include an aquatics centre, walking track, indoor cricket batting cage and a multi-purpose athletics space.

The sports complex will be Kitchener’s first net-zero carbon facility. It will adopt geothermal heating and cooling and will have solar panels mounted to its roof.
