Vancouver allowing one day per week for residential lawn watering amid hot, dry conditions

Snowpack is 56 per cent of historical average

Metro Vancouver residents will be allotted only one day a week to water their lawns, starting May 1.

The water conservation measure has been implemented in response to a low snowpack and expectations for a hot and dry summer.

The snowpack is about 56 per cent of its historical average. Reservoirs are expected to be full by the middle of May.

Lawn watering restrictions went into effect in mid-summer in 2023. Residents are being encouraged by the municipality to let their lawns go brown so that sufficient water is available for drinking, cooking and cleaning.
