Pitch launched to have dome, synthetic turf baseball field installed in Sherbrooke, Que.

Project's cost estimate $7 million

A dome and synthetic turf project could give baseball players in Sherbrooke, Que. a place to play during the off season.

Steve Langlois, president of the Complexe Turf-Dome Sherbrooke, wishes to have a synthetic baseball field established outside the Centre Julien-Ducharme Sports Complexe and to erect a dome over the field in winter. His hopes are to see it happen in the next three to five years.

The approximately $7-million project includes the artificial turf installation and labour costs to erect the dome.

The project received the support of former Mayor Steve Lussier, but he was defeated in last November’s municipal elections. Langlois will try to win over current Mayor Évelyne Beaudin and the rest of council.
