Sports Turf Canada offers two-day, online synthetic turf instructional course

Sports Turf Canada is conducting a two-day online course in the safety and maintenance of synthetic sports turf.

Registration for the Dec. 16 and 17 course is now open.

Sports Turf Canada’s goal is to advance the knowledge and education of sports turf professionals in Canada in the areas of synthetic sports turf field safety and maintenance. The course is aimed at those who manage or maintain synthetic sports turf as well as those who wish to develop additional knowledge and skills in this field.

The course instructor is Tab Buckner of the Township of Langley, B.C., former president of Sports Turf Canada.

Topics to be covered in the course include a look at what synthetic turf is, the history of synthetic turf, the design of fields, how to identify a type of field, installation and drainage, field safety best practices, infill understanding, an equipment overview, maintenance best practices and techniques, and troubleshooting common problems.

A total of 2.5 hours of instruction will be provided on each day of the course. The cost of the course is $160 for Sports Turf Canada members and $320 for potential members. The course includes reference material, and participants will be awarded a Sports Turf Canada certificate of successful completion.
