Winnipeg-area golfers can claim they haven’t stopped playing since last season.

Perhaps they haven’t officially “played” golf since the 2023 season came to an end, but they haven’t missed a month of hitting balls since then.

The Shooters Family Golf Centre’s driving range has officially opened for the 2024 season, but periods of mild weather throughout the winter months allowed it to open temporarily in January, February and March as well as December of 2023 after the Shooters golf course closed for the season.

A Shooters official said she has never experienced such a long season in her more than 30 years at the centre. Avid golfers were able to “play” golf 12 consecutive months of the year. The golf course is anticipating an early opening for 2024.
