Mild weather allows 102-year-old B.C. golf course to open for season on leap day

Full tee sheet booked for day, attracting golfers from Kamloops to Kelowna

One of the oldest golf courses in British Columbia chose leap day – Feb. 29 – to open the 2024 season.

The Penticton Golf & Country Club opened its doors on this particularly mild winter day with eager golfers booking a full tee sheet. The 102-year-old golf course attracted golfers from as far as Kelowna and Kamloops.

Other courses in the area have also opened for play, but have only nine holes currently open. Courses in the central and north Okanagan regions have delayed their openings due to wetter-than-normal conditions.

Although leap day proved to be mild, the forecast for subsequent days suggest high temperatures ranging between three and six degrees with a chance of flurries or showers.
