Lack of snow this winter forces Saskatoon snow contractor to get creative

Contractor is offering summertime services and recycling pickup

December 19, 2023  By Turf & Rec

The lack of snow in south and central Saskatchewan is taking its toll on some private snow removal contractors’ businesses. At least one of them, however, has got creative to ensure he still has a revenue stream.

Benny’s Yardworks in Saskatoon is offering customers services normally reserved for the summer season, including hedge trimming, tree removal and pruning. Additionally, the company is offering what it calls a “Christmas cleanup special,” in which residential properties’ recycling will be picked up and dealt with.

The services have proven to be a hit with customers, and full bookings are being realized.

Other local snow contractors are concerned the lack of snow could negatively impact their part-time staff and those on call. At this time a year ago, snow contractors had already been out clearing snow 17 times compared to only once this year.
