Construction set to start on Airdrie, Alta.’s first artificial turf sports field

Construction to replace a natural grass field with artificial turf is to begin today at Airdrie, Alta.’s Ed Eggerer Athletic Park.

The installation represents the municipality’s first and only synthetic turf sports field.

The field is expected to be ready for play in the fall, in time for the local high school football season to begin. The decision to replace the natural field with artificial turf was partly based on the ability to have the field ready for play each year sooner than a natural field would allow.

With construction ready to begin, the site will be unavailable for use.
