A $300,000 loan has been approved to help the Saanich, B.C. Fusion Football Club replace its aging artificial turf playing surface.

Saanich council approved the loan toward the $781,000 turf replacement cost. The existing playing surface was installed in 2008 at the field at Tyndall Park. After 15 years, it is deemed to have reached the end of its lifespan. Further play on the aging surface is said to pose a safety risk.

The football club is responsible for maintaining the field which is used by other groups outside of the football club.

Council has been told the replacement type of artificial turf is not the same as that installed at Oak Bay High School. Clumps of the Oak Bay turf has been tracked off the field and making their way into Bowker Creek.
