Officials hope playing conditions at Super Bowl LVIII won’t be a repeat of last year

Game will be played a second straight year on retractable natural grass field

As Super Bowl LVIII approaches, field conditions at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas are being brought into question.

Allegiant Stadium has two retractable fields – an artificial turf surface used for games by the University of Nevada at Las Vegas and a natural turf field which the Las Vegas Raiders play on.

It presents a similar scenario to last year when the Super Bowl was played at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. which also has a retractable natural grass field. Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs players complained about the field conditions during last year’s game, saying they were slippery. The blame was placed on overwatering the field.

With back-to-back Super Bowl games played on similar surface types, officials are hoping there is no repeat of last year’s criticism.
