Nelson, B.C. golf course opens for season early with golfers seeing some noticeable changes

Shorter first hole, temporary green among changes

Nelson, B.C.’s Granite Pointe Golf Club is opening earlier than usual for the season, and golfers will notice some immediate changes to the course.

Today is Granite Pointe’s opening day, rather than its normal mid-April start. As part of the recent sale of the golf course to a developer, notable changes have been made to a couple of holes.

The first hole has been reduced to a par three from a par four while a temporary green is in place for the par four 12th hole. Work on revamping the green got underway last year, but it’s not ready to be put in play.

Other golf courses in the area have already opened for play, including Christina Lake which opened in mid-March and Castlegar and Birchbank in Trail which both opened March 22.
