Kitchener-area golf course opens to scores of golfers during spring-like weather

Ariss Valley Golf Club opened to more than 500 golfers Saturday, Sunday and Monday

March 5, 2024  By Turf & Rec

Even though only 18 of 27 holes were available for play and golfers were confined to walking the course, the Ariss Valley Golf & Country Club near Kitchener, Ont. was busier than ever Saturday, Sunday and Monday after marking its earliest season opening ever.

The pleasant spring-like weather attracted 152 golfers on Saturday, 168 on Sunday and 190 on Monday. The club’s previous season opening date was March 15.

Weather will dictate how long the club remains open. Ariss Valley didn’t open until April 10 last year and remained open until Nov. 15.

Other golf courses in southern Ontario opened for at least a couple of days this week. Temperatures reached 20 degrees Celsius on Monday in some locations.
