Manitoba junior football club gets field converted to artificial turf from natural grass

Funding for project supported by all three government levels and private donors

The St. Vital Mustangs of the Manitoba Major Junior Football League have a brand new playing field.

The team will now be playing on artificial turf following a $2-million conversion from natural turf at the Maple Grove Rugby Park facility. The field will be shared with the Winnipeg Rifles junior team. Each team’s logo is prominently displayed at opposite end zones.

The former natural grass playing surface often turned to mud following a significant rain event. The surface conversion project has been in the works for about four years.

Financial support for the project was provided by the federal, provincial and municipal governments as well as by private donors.

Other improvements to the field include modern lighting, a clubhouse with dressing rooms, a press box, and food and merchandise vendor facilities.
