London opening its city golf courses, including centennial-celebrating Thames Valley
Most rounds ever played in 2023 at city-owned courses
April 3, 2024 By Turf & Rec
Both of London, Ont.’s city-owned golf courses kick off their seasons April 4, including Thames Valley Golf Course which is marking its 100th anniversary this year.
Thames Valley features both a traditional 18-hole layout as well as a nine-hole track called the Hickory course that features par three and shorter par four holes.
London had previously been home to three municipal golf courses, but elected in 2021 to shut down the River Road course it claimed was under performing. The decision proved to be controversial, but the sale of the land was meant to keep the remaining municipal courses viable.
The closure of River Road has led to an increase in play at Thames Valley and Fanshawe. The city reported a total of 120,000 rounds were played last season at the two courses, marking its busiest year ever.
