El Nino attributed for earliest opening of Prince George, B.C. golf course in recent memory

Prince George, B.C.’s Pine Valley Golf Centre has opened for the season much earlier than normal, claiming its greens are perfect.

A club official said the March 29 opening date was the earliest she can recall.

Although there have been some morning frost delays, golfers have been turning out in droves, including during the Easter weekend when the golf course was packed.

The warm spring is being attributed to an El Nino system, a University of British Columbia environmental science professor says, adding he expects warmer-than-usual weather will continue through the spring and possibly the summer.
