Cricket field opens for play in Bradford, Ont. a year after idea was conceived
Slightly smaller oval makes field ideal for softball cricket play

A new softball cricket field has opened for play in Bradford, Ont. only a year after it was originally conceived.
Municipal officials, local residents and members of the Bradford Cricket Club gathered last week at Joe Magani Park for the official opening.
The near $100,000 project – which exceeded the initial estimate of $93,000 – measures 100 metres by 90 metres with an oval smaller than the standard 140 metres by 150 size. The lesser oval dimensions deems in non-compliant for hardball cricket matches.
The pitch itself measures 12 feet by 174 feet with a reinforced concrete slab covered by artificial turf and two stump boxes.
Construction began on the project last June.
A 10-team tournament is set to begin this weekend and continue for four weekends.
