St. Albert, Alta. to pay more than $100,000 above budget for turf replacement
Aging artificial turf surface deemed unsafe for play
June 14, 2023 By Turf & Rec

St. Albert, Alta. will be spending $112,700 more than it budgeted to replace the artificial turf surface at Larry Olexiuk Field in Riel Park.
The added expense puts the project’s overall budget to more than $1 million. The budget increase was deemed necessary after the lowest bid received was $112,700 more than the $925,200 initially budgeted.
The original artificial surface was installed in 2008, opening for play the following year. The municipality has declared the aging surface unsafe and in need of replacement.
The city will use its capital reserve to pay for the increased amount.
