Challenger baseball opens game to those with various disabilities

February 28, 2024  By Turf & Rec

Efforts are underway between the City of Sault Ste. Marie and its minor baseball association to jointly plan a Challenger baseball field at Sinclair Yards.

A field designed for Challenger baseball is one that can be utilized by players with physical or intellectual disabilities, cognitive delays or developmental disabilities.

The field could either be a brand new field or an existing diamond upgraded accordingly. Sinclair Yards is owned by the city but maintained by the Soo Minor Baseball Association.

Challenger diamonds are built with an artificial turf surface.
