More ball diamonds needed in Manitoba community as youth registrations increase
Existing diamonds not enough to accommodate registered players
January 19, 2024 By Turf & Rec
A growing number of registrations with the Rat River Minor Baseball Association in Manitoba has prompted the need for more diamonds.
More than 180 young baseball players are registered with the association, but there are only three regulation size diamonds in the area to accommodate play.
The association draws players from several neighbouring communities. Players have relied on school diamonds for play, but the association believes the municipality should provide places to play. Estimates to build a diamond range between $100,000 and $150,000, depending on the amount of landscaping required and the need for fencing and other infrastructure.
Fundraising efforts are currently underway in the community.
