‘Ryerson Park’ sign removed at Owen Sound park as city ponders name change
Egerton Ryerson was a founder of residential school system
June 9, 2021 By Owen Sound Sun Times
The sign at Ryerson Park in Owen Sound has been removed, and city council is looking to rename the park as its namesake was a founder of Canada’s residential school system for First Nations’ children. Requests have come from the Tk’emlúps First Nation to rename the park following the discovery of the remains of 215 children in unmarked graves at a former residential school in Kamloops.
