Removing trees to accommodate city bike lanes in Halifax is ‘100 per cent stupid’

Trees take decades to grow back

Halifax Regional Municipality is considering the removal of several trees in order to accommodate more bicycle lanes – the thought of which is preposterous to an urban forest expert. Peter Duinker says the idea is “100 per cent stupid.” He says the best place for cities to grow trees is along roadways, adding it takes decades for new trees to grow back.
