Golfers take advantage of re-opened municipal Calgary courses during balmy winter day
Chinook winds and effects of El Niño contribute to high temperature of 16 Celsius
December 6, 2023 By Turf & Rec
While most of Canada is on the threshold of winter or are dealing with an early taste of the season, it’s a different story in Calgary where golfers have returned to the links.
Two city-owned golf courses re-opened for play on Tuesday as temperatures soared to 16 degrees Celsius. Maple Ridge and Shaganappi Point opened their doors with reasonable green fee prices.
Calgary was deemed the warmest place in Canada Tuesday.
A meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada said the warm December weather was the result of a chinook pattern and the effects of an El Niño global weather pattern.
