Several people duped into paying deposit fees for no work

Residents of the Hawkesbury, Ont. area are being warned of a snow removal services scam.
Ontario Provincial Police say several people in East Hawkesbury and Vankleek Hill have paid deposit fees between $200 and $400 for snow removal services. Police say an individual is pretending to represent a snow removal business, adding it’s an “active scam.”
The Eastern Ontario region had its first significant snow storm of the season on Monday, but those who paid deposit fees were defrauded when no snow removal service was conducted.
Police are waning residents not to give out personal information over the telephone. Anyone with information that can help identify the fraudster are asked to call police.
