B.C. district to prioritize irrigation system for one sports park over another

Irrigation system at park in Coldstream is damaged and underperforming

May 6, 2024  By Turf & Rec

Staff from the District of Coldstream, B.C. are recommending that funding of up to $25,000 be reallocated for the design of an irrigation system at the Creekside Park sports fields. The funding was previously earmarked for the design of a new irrigation system at Sovereign Park.

The district’s director of infrastructure services says the existing irrigation system at Creekside Park is damaged and underperforming, leading to the turf becoming dormant and the ground getting hard. By season’s end, the fields are said to be unplayable.

Upgraded irrigation at the park will lead to additional play among user groups and increased revenue.

Sovereign Park’s current irrigation system layout is restrictive with its proximity to the parking lot. Council’s committee of the whole will discuss the matter further at its meeting this week.
