A new artificial turf field is being considered in Aurora, Ont. as part of a potential partnership between the municipality and the Aurora Barbarians Rugby Club.
A recommendation has been made for a second artificial field at Sheppard’s Bush that would become the rugby club’s home base.
The team has indicated it would provide $1 million toward the construction of the field as well as look after the full cost of a clubhouse building, estimated to cost $750,000.
The total cost of a new field, that would include the playing surface, lighting, fencing and seating, is estimated between $2.5 million and $2.8 million. The addition of a new artificial field at the site would require the removal of four underutilized soccer fields.
