Peterborough high school getting new $3.7-million artificial turf sports field
Play on new field won't begin until spring

Holy Cross Secondary School in Peterborough is getting a new $3.7-million dollar artificial turf field to headline a project that also includes stadium lighting, a rubber track and new bleachers.
The field project is being jointly paid for by the Peterborough Victoria Northumberland Clarington Catholic District School Board and the city. Although the work is expected to be completed later this fall, it won’t be ready for play until the spring.
The project had been delayed for a number of weeks due to the artificial turf being held up in Montreal because of a port strike. The turf is expected to be laid within a couple of weeks. Crews are currently preparing the ground for its installation.
Switching to an artificial playing surface is expected to allow sports to be played at times when poor weather could be damaging to natural grass.
