September 22, 2023  By Turf & Rec

The tracks at four high schools within the Greater Essex County District School Board will be replaced with natural grass.

The schools’ existing tracks will be closed for use in the meantime due to health and safety reasons.

Windsor Stadium at W.C. Kennedy Collegiate Institute will not only undergo replacement of the track with natural grass, but will also relocated its lighting and restore washrooms and grandstands. The estimated cost is to exceed $1.2 million with work slated to begin in 2024.

The tracks at Massey Secondary School, Herman Academy Secondary School and Belle River District High School will have their tracks replaced with grass at a cost of about $1 million. The work at those schools is expected to be completed no later than 2024.
