Thunder Bay golf courses not quite ready to open yet, but welcome golfers to ranges

Course officials want to monitor fluctuating temperatures and frost depths before opening

March 13, 2024  By Turf & Rec

It’s yet to be determined when Thunder Bay-area golf courses will open for the season, but recent warm weather has allowed some local driving ranges to open.

Northern Lights and Dragon Hills, two private golf courses, opened their ranges this week to members anxious to get their season underway.

Course openings will depend on temperature fluctuations and frost depths. Golf course officials, however, have said the warmer than normal recent period might allow openings to take place earlier than usual – perhaps as early as late April.

Local courses don’t want to push their openings too early for fear of compromising course conditions.
