Soaring insurance premiums could seriously hurt snow and ice contractors

A rise in slip-and-fall lawsuits against snow and ice contractors is resulting in insurance premiums skyrocketing upwards of nine times their current rate. Chris Jorgenson, business development manager of Canada Yard Pro in Calgary, says landscaping companies that are normally charged a rate of $7,800 are facing increases to $50,000 to $65,000 for the same coverage. Those increases will have to be passed on to the customer, he adds.
