Ongoing vandalism, poor weather contribute to upgrade delays at Burlington, Ont. park
Completion was to have already happened, but now delayed until fall

Construction at a Burlington, Ont. park, that began last October, was intended to be completed by now, but a combination of ongoing vandalism and weather-related issues have delayed completion until the fall, the city reports.
Leighland Park is to include upgrades to its existing baseball diamond, basketball court and tennis court among other improvements. However, ongoing vandalism to site equipment and fencing have thrown a wrench into the project’s timetable.
Additionally, rainy weather and wet site conditions have contributed to further delays.
The city reports that machinery is being damaged and tools stolen while the park’s perimeter fencing is continually being torn down.
Acts of suspected vandalism have more recently occurred at another Burlington park where its playground rubber surfacing appears to have been purposely damaged.
