COVID restrictions put halt to expansion baseball team’s inaugural season
Overhaul of artificial turf field was set to be ready for June 1 opener

Just as they were ready to begin their inaugural season in the West Coast Baseball League, with significant renovations being made to their home field, the Edmonton Riverhawks are bowing out of the 2021 season due to COVID-19 restrictions. The league’s four other Canadian-based teams have also withdrawn from the season for the same reason. The artificial turf surface at Re/Max Field in Edmonton was undergoing a major overhaul to prepare for what would have been a June 1 home opener for the Riverhawks.
