Calgary councillor, volunteers seek to drive away dog-unfriendly foxtail grass
Sharp, barbed seeds stick in dogs' paws
August 31, 2022 By Turf & Rec

A Calgary city councillor is joining forces with a group of volunteers with a goal of encouraging developers to come up with a strategy to eliminate foxtail grass. Even though it’s not classified as a noxious weed, foxtail is an aggressive-growing plant that produces sharp, barbed seeds that can stick in dogs’ paws, ears and skin, resulting in costly veterinary bills. Coun. Evan Spencer wishes to see a bylaw enacted that will force developers to help solve the problem.
