Burlington council wants Ontario government to cease development plans at golf course

Developer proposes 100 new homes on parts of Millcroft Golf Club

September 26, 2023  By Turf & Rec

City council in Burlington, Ont. will be asking the Ontario government to cease development plans for parts of the Millcroft Golf Club.

Local ratepayers and p0litician alike suggest the potential participation of the provincial government in the matter could effectively remove the Ontario Land Tribunal from becoming involved. The removal of the OLT could shift a ruling in favour of the developers.

The planned subdivision would reduce the size of the golf course, allowing about 100 homes to be built at the site. The developers suggest housing is badly needed in Burlington.

Nearby residents argue that new development may decrease wildlife populations and will affect flood management. They add there will be an increase in traffic in the area.

Burlington Mayor Marianne Meed Ward says the city supports growth but doesn’t support the conversion of green space into housing.
