Allowance for 100% naturalized yards recommended for City of Thunder Bay
Public feedback persuades municipal staff
June 22, 2022 By Turf & Rec

City staff in Thunder Bay have listened to the wishes of local residents and are advocating changes to current yard maintenance bylaws. The recommendation would allow residents to naturalize up to 100 per cent of their yards. The original proposal was to limit alternative ground cover to 50 per cent of open yard space, but public feedback has resulted in a suggestion for 100 per cent. Native grasses and wildflowers would be approved, but invasive or problem species would be prohibited.
