Turf managers’ short course returning this winter at GTI’s new Frost Centre

Program to be held Feb. 7-March 4

The renowned turf managers’ short course, offered through Open Learning and Educational Support in partnership with the Guelph Turfgrass Institute at the University of Guelph, will be offered this winter at the GTI’s new G.M. Frost Centre location on College Avenue.

The month-long professional development program will be held Feb. 7 to March 4, and will be presented by nine experienced industry instructors, including faculty from the University of Guelph. The program is designed for turf industry professionals to hone their skills.

Among the topics of study include:

  • turfgrass identification
  • turfgrass species and management
  • identification and management of turfgrass diseases, insects and weeds
  • integrated pest management
  • turfgrass irrigation
  • turfgrass equipment
  • construction and drainage
  • landscape management

To support continued learning, five monetary scholarships and awards are available to students in the short course program. Additionally, students can also apply for OpenEd’s two bursaries – the Virginia L. Gray Memorial Bursary and the Open Learning Bursary to assist with funding the course.

Students who successfully complete the course will earn the Turf Managers’ Short Course Certificate. The program’s sponsoring partners are the Ontario Agricultural College and Guelph Turfgrass Institute.
