Lawn-watering restrictions begin in Metro Vancouver to conserve drinking water

Residents can water their lawns one morning a week

May 2, 2024  By Turf & Rec

As a means of conserving water for drinking purposes, Metro Vancouver has imposed lawn watering restrictions that are now in effect until mid-October.

District residents are permitted to water their lawns only one morning per week.

Reservoirs have benefited from recent spring rainfall, but the area is still dealing with a lower-than-normal snowpack.

Water usage can increase by about 50 per cent in the summer in Metro Vancouver – driving largely by lawn watering. The region has stated that by initiating the restrictions earlier in the season, it may be able to avoid having to stiffen restrictions later on.
