Chris Bozanin, equipment manager from Beacon Hall Golf Club in Aurora, Ont., has been named CGSA/Foley Company equipment technician of the year for 2023.

The announcement was made by the award’s co-sponsors – the Canadian Golf Superintendents Association and Foley Company.

The is presented annually to the technician whose nomination is judged to be the best example of an individual who exhibits professionalism, innovation, and a team approach to make a significant contribution to their golf facility and the golf community.

Bozanin’s award includes an “all-access” registration to the Canadian 2024 Golf Course Management Conference, Feb. 27-29 and four nights’ accommodation and transportation costs to Montreal. The award will be formally presented Feb. 27 during the CGSA awards luncheon.

“Chris is pro-active in solving potential problems by examining equipment daily,” nominator Colin Young, director of golf course operations at Beacon Hall, said. “He is organized with up-to-date service schedules and keeps in good communication with me and the rest of my management team. After every use of our mowers, Chris checks the heights and adjusts, making sure they are cutting paper before it goes back out. It does not stop there – he goes out in the field daily to check quality of cut and operation of equipment, giving us feedback, making us more efficient, more accountable, and better operators. Under pressure and dealing with equipment breakdowns, Chris is always composed and assures me and my team that everything will be OK and consistently gets us back up and running promptly. He has conducted himself as a team player and a professional equipment manager.”

CGSA president Dustin Zdan said, “Chris has conducted himself as a team player and a professional equipment manager. He does whatever it takes to get the job done. It is that motivation which contributes to the successful operation of Beacon Hall Golf Club.”

“Foley Company is pleased to recognize Chris Bozanin, equipment manager from the Beacon Hall Golf Club, for being our Canadian technician of the year. As we know, behind the scenes of every golf course is a great equipment technician, not always getting the recognition they deserve. Without question, Chris is very deserving of this award, and we take great pride in sponsoring his achievements.”
