Garden centre customers say business is essential, province does not

Garden centres and nurseries are opening elsewhere, but not in Ontario

While other provinces are allowing nurseries and garden centres to open amid the current COVID-19 pandemic, they are still deemed as non-essential in Ontario. “It is our customers who tell us we are an essential service,” Tanya Olsen, owner of Royal City Nursery in Guelph, said, adding 60 to 70 per cent of the company’s business is done between April 15 and June 15.
