Trespassers at a Manitoba golf course caused extensive damage to three greens on Sunday, leaving deep ruts believed to have been made by electric dirt bikes.
Pembina Valley Online reports the 12th, 13th and 16th greens at the Minnewasta Golf and Country Club in Morden were badly damaged, resulting in repair costs that could ultimately reach upwards of $5,000 when factoring in reduced green fees.
The timing of the damage has added to the challenge of repair work. The rutted areas would require reseeding, but sufficient growth at this point in the season is unlikely. The option of sodding is considered impractical due to it having to be trucked in from Alberta or British Columbia.
Police are investigating the incident, but no witnesses have been reported.
