Winnipeg challenged to plant 1M trees in 20 years

Winnipeg's tree canopy is under threat by both the emerald ash borer and Dutch elm disease.

Sept. 20, 2019 – Winnipeg residents are being challenged to plant one million new trees over the next 20 years as the city continues its defence against the threat of Dutch elm disease and the emerald ash borer. The one-million number coincides with the expected population of the city in 20 years and is aimed at restoring Winnipeg’s tree canopy.
