Windsor to design full-sized cricket pitch as sport’s popularity and field demand grow

City already has two undersized cricket pitches

May 30, 2022  By Turf & Rec

The City of Windsor, Ont. is investing $100,000 toward the design for a new full-sized cricket pitch proposed for Derwent Park in Forest Glade.

The sport is growing in popularity, resulting in a growing demand for pitches in the city. The demand is fueled mainly by international students from around the world. The field’s design is expected to be completed by summer’s end before the project is presented to city council for its 2023 proposed capital budget considerations.

Two other cricket pitches are located elsewhere in the city, but are not full sized.

The president of the Windsor-Essex Cricket League says the local talent is so strong that some players could make the Ontario and national teams.
