Windsor presented with strategies for controlling surging Canada geese numbers
A cull is a last resort approach
September 4, 2024 By Turf & Rec
Windsor, Ont.’s rising Canada goose population may have solutions to whittle numbers down.
Several approaches have been recommended to the city’s Community Services Standing Committee, including allowing grass in parks to grow longer, oiling eggs and using lights and lasers to dissuade goose gatherings.
CKNX News reports that a cull could be considered as a last resort. Most of the recommended actions require costly permits, but funding the strategies isn’t available in Windsor’s operating or capital budgets and would have to wait until next year’s budget deliberations for consideration.
