Water issues spark Chinese golf course shutdowns

More than 100 golf courses in China have been shut down due to improper use of groundwater and arable land. The government crackdown on golf, which has closed 111 courses and has imposed restrictions on 65 others, is an effort to conserve water and land. Controversy over golf course development in China has arisen in recent years, with some being built in the guise of parks and other vague designations.
