Vancouver moves closer to banning gas-powered landscaping equipment
West end has banned gas blowers for two decades
January 28, 2022 By Turf & Rec
The City of Vancouver has taken a further step toward banning the use of gas-powered landscaping equipment. Council passed a motion Wednesday to phase out such gas-powered tools as blowers, mowers and chainsaws by 2024, aimed at both commercial and personal use. Coun. Sarah Kirby-Yung, who initiated the motion, said a city-wide ban is appropriate with Vancouver having become more residentially dense. Gas-powered leaf blowers have been banned in the city’s west end the past two decades.
