Turf maintenance to benefit from city’s strategy to remove ball washers from muni courses
Thunder Bay putting out water buckets instead
June 7, 2022 By Turf & Rec

Ball washers have been removed from two city-owned golf courses in Thunder Bay, Ont. – a strategy designed to put more money into turf maintenance. The city’s supervisor of golf services says the labour involved with installing the washers at the outset of the season, removing them at season’s end and maintaining them throughout the year will save money that can be better applied to course maintenance. Although many golfers aren’t happy with the arrangement, buckets of water have been placed at the first and 10th tees so that players can dip towels into them as a means of maintaining a clean ball for a full round.
