Town’s mayor, deputy mayor vote against new soccer field, but are outvoted by council

Grand Valley, Ont. approves preliminary field plan

February 11, 2022  By Turf & Rec

Preliminary plans are underway for a new soccer field in Grand Valley, Ont. Council has voted to lay sod for the new field, that will neighbour two existing baseball fields, but the plan wasn’t universally supported.

The municipality’s mayor and deputy mayor both voted against the $500,000 project, with the latter arguing against the price tag.

Coun. Stephen Miles said little could go wrong with grassing and levelling the field as there are no current plans to add such extras as goalposts and seating. He said the inclusion of a soccer field makes the site a recreation area and not simply a pair of ball diamonds.
