Terrace, B.C.’s cricket community asks city for proper field instead of playing in parking lot

City asks staff to look into request's viability

Cricket players in Terrace, B.C. want to play on a proper field and have asked the city to fund the cost of a permanent place to play.

The approximately 60 regular cricket players in Terrace have been playing in a concrete parking lot. They’re seeking a field that would be ovular in design with a 65-yard radius. Additionally, they want a 22-yard pitch made from cement to ensure proper ball bounce. The cost of the pitch is estimated at between $8,000 and $10,000.

Council heard the request from a delegation representing the city’s cricket community. The city was told the number of cricket players has grown considerably in recent years from about 16 at the outset.

The city has instructed staff to look into the viability of the request.
