The opening of a new artificial turf field and surrounding resurfaced athletic track were celebrated on the weekend at the South Surrey (B.C.) Athletic Park.

The field is the city’s 16th artificial playing surface. In addition to the field, the overall project included new track surfacing, a practice throwing cage and track and field facility upgrades.

Funding for the project came from the capital parcel tax of the “Surrey Invests” capital program as well as more than $60,000 from community partners Tire Stewardship BC, Peace Arch Peninsula Rotary Club, Peace Arch Hospital Foundation, Corix Utilities, SurreyCares, and Ocean Athletics.

Surrey’s artificial turf fields and track facilities are viewed as central sports features to several user groups and community members, providing opportunities from casual active recreation to competitive play.
